I'm not sure how I really feel about this. There's a big part of me that knows that what he is saying is true. His thought is that, with all the back problems I'm having, it's going to be incredibly hard to lose the weight.
But if they do the surgery to fix my back so I can lose weight; even if the surgery is 100% successful, my back is very likely to get hurt again during my weight loss pursuits
So, it makes much more sense to try to get me to a healthy weight and then see if my back can heal itself. And if it can't, then any possible back surgeries are much more likely to be effective if I'm at my healthy weight.
Which is pretty much what I've been saying here all along. :)
His concern; though, is that with the mobility issues and extreme pain I have going on, exercising and losing weight is going to be VERY hard to achieve.
Which I can agree with because stepping on the scale in his office, I found out that I am 321 pounds again. Not the 312-315 that my crappy home scale had been telling me.
THAT was a major let down.
I don't know what to do. I know the risks involved with the surgery, I know the complications that can arise. I know these things.
But, the doctor said before the surgery I'd have to take part in this whole, long program where I would consult A LOT with dietitians and surgeons and psychologists. The goal is to help me understand all the options and all the possibilities and to help me get as healthy as possible BEFORE the surgery.
I asked the doctor if anyone had ever gotten so healthy that they no longer needed the surgery and he said that it had happened. So, that would be good. I'll hope for that outcome the most. :)
I have A LOT to think about. I know a surgery like this could potentially, completely change my life, but I know there are dangers attached and that I would have to MAJORLY and permenantly change my lifestyle.
I just don't know.
